Hi, I’m Caroline and I look after the Juniors section at Old Ruts. As ‘Head of Juniors’ I first got involved with the Club, and the sport, when my children were very young. I came to love rugby not just for the game but for its principles and inclusiveness. I started out as Team Manager and soon became Vice Chair of Kids First which I held for 5 seasons before being asked (nice way of putting it) to take on the role of ‘Head of Juniors’. However, I’ve still carried on with my role as Team Manager as this enables me to see things from a team’s perspective.
Old Ruts continues to progress and I’ve seen the introduction of Mental Health First Aid ensuring we look after the whole child not just their sporting ability and thanks to Old Ruts I am now a qualified Youth Mental First Aider.
‘Head of Juniors’ is a role that supports the army of volunteers, Coaches, Team Managers and First Aiders, who spend their time training and enabling young people from U12s to U17s, to participate play and or train each week.
One of my goals is to ensure young people play rugby for a long as possible with enjoyment being at the heart of the game. Rugby is a very inclusive game and we continue to follow the principles set out by the RFU.
